Halliburton Could Get $1.5 Bln
From Reuters: Halliburton Co., under scrutiny for its contracts in Iraq, would receive an extra $1.5 billion as part of the Bush war spending proposal. Before the invasion the word out of the Bush White House was under $2 billion total cost to the American taxpayer because Iraq would be paying the bill with oil revnues. Now we are throwing around billions like it means nothing and no accountability. Even worst case scenarios did not see the costs we are incurring. From the AP Feb 2003: "Ousting Saddam Hussein could cost the United States $40 billion or much more if the war drags on, analysts say. And the aftermath could be even more expensive, with the price tag for rebuilding and securing Iraq potentially exceeding $100 billion." These "estimates" were not even close and we are expected to just keep on towing the Bush line and pay with our blood and treasure. |
