It could have been much worse

As bad as New Orleans is the nightmare could have been much worse. Katrina turned east just before reaching New Orleans and pummeled the Mississippi and Alabama coast. If Katrina had hit New Orleans head on as a Cat 4 or 5 storm with a 20 – 30 foot storm surge we would not have seen so many rescues because so many more people would have drowned during the storm. Who knows what would have happened to the levee. The Superdome was in serious trouble already and may need to be torn down, imagine a direct hit. As bad as it is, it could have been much worse.
