Should Bush be commenting on an ongoing investigation? Is this an attempt to influence the jury pool? With all the blatant, in your face, out of control corruption in Washington Bush will defend you as long as you can bring him a political "victory".

Bush Comes to DeLay's Defense By Edwin Chen, Times Staff Writer
WASHINGTON — President Bush said Wednesday that he believed indicted Rep. Tom DeLay (R-Texas) was innocent of money-laundering charges and expressed hope that his fellow Texan would regain his post as House majority leader.
"I hope that he will [return] because I like him," Bush said in an interview with Fox News. "And plus, when he's over there, we got our votes through the House."
In Bush World as long as there is corruption on both sides of the aisle then it's OK.
Asked about a "culture of corruption" in Washington, Bush called lobbyist Jack Abramoff, the target of a federal investigation, "an equal money dispenser," saying both political parties received contributions from him.
So, as long you both parties have corrupt members it's OK. By the way, how much did Bush get from Abramoff? ($34,250)
From Fox News transcript:
HUME: Do you home (hope?) and expect that Tom DeLay will return to be majority leader?
BUSH: Yes. At least, I don't know whether I'm expecting it. I hope that he will.
HUME: Why?
BUSH: Well, I like him. When he's over there, we get our votes through the House. We had a remarkable success of legislative victories. A remarkable string of legislative victories. We've cut the taxes and delivered strong economic growth and vitality. We've had an energy bill that began to put American on its way to independence.
HUME: You know a thing or two about Texas politics. What is your judgment of the prosecutor in the case, Ronnie Earle?
BUSH: I'm not going to go there, simply because I want — I want this trial to be conducted as fairly as possible. And the more politics that are in it, the less likely it's going to be fair.
HUME: Do you just — do you believe he's innocent?
BUSH: Do I? Yes, I do. Now that's keeping politics out. |
