Famous Quotes

"Every government degenerates when trusted to the rulers of the people alone. The people themselves, therefore, are its only safe depositories. "
Thomas Jefferson, 1781

"In the councils of government, we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the military-industrial complex. The potential for the disastrous rise of misplaced power exists and will persist. "
Dwight D. Eisenhower

"How many legs does a dog have if you call the tail a leg?
Four.
Calling a tail a leg doesn't make it a leg."
Abraham Lincoln

"See, in my line of work you got to keep repeating things over and over and over again for the truth to sink in, to kind of catapult the propaganda."
George W. Bush, May 24, 2005

Majority Report

If you are a fan of Air America Radio and the Majority Report with Sam Seder they are being moved to the morning time slot. Good news, Sam Seder had been "concerned" they were dropping his show. Not a chance, Sam Seder is great, if you haven't heard him you are missing out. Check out The Majority Report.

From The Boston Globe
Most listeners had never heard of Seder, whose ``Majority Report" was promoted this week to the midmorning slot -- 9 a.m. to noon -- on more than 70 stations across the country, including New York and Los Angeles. (Inexplicably, Air America's Boston affiliate broadcasts the show from 1-4 a.m.)

Im a first timer on your blog. It was a good read. I especially like the Jack Cafferty comment. I used to have my reservations about him, but I like to hear him rant!
I love The Majority Report. I also listen to Randi Rhodes.
I agree with your other post about the NSA wiretapping. I think if 06 turns out the way I think 06 is going to turn out, then we are on the way to Impeachment of this administration. I feel this is a very important time in the History of the United States. We actually have the chance to make a huge impact on the world during a midterm election. It is pretty unheard of. This week, reminding everyone of the complete incompetence the US Gov. during the Katrina disaster, the Iraqi war becoming more and more "quagmire-ish", the involuntary recall of marines while the pentagon tells us how strong we are militarily...it all just adds up to sheer inability to lead this country!
Aren't you glad we are 'fighting them over there', not so we can sleep tight at night, but for if we had to fight them here, we would lose. I did support the "hunt for bin laden" but I don't support this occupation.
There is a comment in the movie JFK that supposedly was "dramatic license" but I am constantly reminded of it when I think about what is going on right now in the USA. It is when "Garrison" is visiting with "Mr. X" and they are doing cutaway shots of these military meetings between Johnson and pentagon leaders. Johnson says "you get me elected, I'll give you your damn war." Mr. X also says that "The organizing principle of any society is for war. The basic authority of a modern state over its people resides in its war powers. . . ."
I know it is total "hollywood" but applicable today.
Enjoyed spending some time here...

Shelly, I just finished a post on the "military industrial complex" when I got your comment. There is more fact than fiction when it comes to the influence of corporations like Halliburton, Lockheed etc... on U.S. foreign policy.
I have hopes for 06 too, we need control of at least one house. I'm in a solid "red" district but I have confidence in gaining enough seats in other areas.
