Rocket fuel found in breast milk
Perchlorate, a component of rocket fuel, has been found in breast milk of women in 18 states and store-bought milk from various locations around the country. The chemical can impede adult metabolism and cause retardation in fetuses. It leaches into groundwater from various military facilities. This comes out after the EPA set new standards which it raised from its preliminary recommendation two years ago due to Pentagon objections. State and local governments are trying to force the Pentagon to pay for the cost to remove the chemical from groundwater. FROM: LiveScience and MSNBC |
