"Every government degenerates when trusted to the rulers of the people alone. The people themselves, therefore, are its only safe depositories. "
Thomas Jefferson, 1781

"In the councils of government, we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the military-industrial complex. The potential for the disastrous rise of misplaced power exists and will persist. "
Dwight D. Eisenhower

"How many legs does a dog have if you call the tail a leg?
Four.
Calling a tail a leg doesn't make it a leg."

"See, in my line of work you got to keep repeating things over and over and over again for the truth to sink in, to kind of catapult the propaganda."

13 MOST CORRUPT MEMBERS OF CONGRESS

News Release from CREW 9-26-05:

CREW RELEASES NEW REPORT -- REVEALS THE MOST TAINTED
MEMBERS OF CONGRESS

BEYOND DELAY: THE 13 MOST CORRUPT MEMBERS OF CONGRESS
Washington, DC -- Today, Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) released a 93-page report entitled Beyond DeLay: The 13 Most Corrupt Members of Congress, documenting the egregious, unethical and possibly illegal activities of the most tainted Members of Congress. For the first time, CREW has compiled and analyzed all these members transgressions in tandem with the federal laws and congressional rules they may have violated.

CREW has also launched a new website, www.beyonddelay.com, which details the tainted thirteen’s violations and encourages visitors, through the website, to contact their member of Congress to ask for an investigation of these members.
The 13 members are:
-- Rep. Roy Blunt (R-MO)
-- Rep. Randy Cunningham (R-CA)
-- Rep. Tom Feeney( R-FL)
-- Rep. William Jefferson (D-LA)
-- Rep. Marilyn Musgrave (R-CO)
-- Rep. Bob Ney (R-OH)
-- Rep. Richard Pombo (R-CA)
-- Rep. Rick Renzi (R-AZ)
-- Rep. Charles Taylor (R-NC)
-- Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA)
-- Sen. Rick Santorum (R-PA)
-- Sen. Bill Frist (R-TN)
-- Sen. Conrad Burns (R-MT)

"CREW was compelled to research and release a report on these corrupt members because the ethics committees in both the House and Senate are completely inert," Melanie Sloan, executive director of CREW said today. "Americans send their representatives to Washington to make laws, not to break them. We want to be clear with our report Beyond DeLay, that no one, not even Members of Congress are above the law."
Over the past year, the issue of Congressional ethics has taken on new resonance. Where questionable conduct was once shrugged off as "business as usual," now both the public and the press are demanding greater accountability from Members of Congress. Leader Tom DeLay's ethics transgressions are just the tip of the iceberg.
At a time when a recent Gallup Poll reports only that 36% of those polled express approval of Congress, people are taking a harder look at the actions of their own representatives.
"It is time for our representatives to take their constitutional obligation to police themselves seriously, an obligation that members of both political parties have ignored to the detriment of the American people," Sloan said today.
Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) is a non-profit, progressive legal watchdog group dedicated to holding public officials accountable for their actions.

Hardly brilliant, just copied the news release, lol (but don't tell anybody).

I noticed that the CREW site does not mention that the DSCC ran by Senator Chuck Schumer which we found out last week had fraudulently obtained the credit report of Maryland Lt. Gov. Michael Steele.

Oh that right He is a Democrat.
According to the CREW site, there are no corrupt Democrats.

I will concede a pair of twentysomething operatives for the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee apparently procured the report. They've been fired by the DSCC, and the case has been referred to the FBI and the U.S. attorney's office in Washington, which are investigating. Schumer was in charge of the DSCC and it remains to be seen if he had anything to do with it. Maybe he’ll make the list next year if there is any room.

The Democrats who made the list of the top 13:
Rep. William Jefferson (D-LA)
Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA)

It doesn’t make the others on the list any less dirty if there should be more on the list with them.

Most of the press releases seem to involve Republicans.

Has CREW gone after any democrats aside from naming the 2 on the most corrupt list?
Unless you count:

I have heard that the two operatives have not been fired by the DSCC.
They were placed on leave and have since resigned.

CREW was formed as a parallel to the conservative groups, no doubt. But that does not make the politicians any less corrupt. Our government has never been more corrupt on both sides of the aisle. CREW has targeted these 13, if they were falsely accused then that is argument to make. To defend the corruption simple because they are Republican (or Democrat) is not worth arguing about.
If Schumer is involved in stealing the credit report of Steele he needs to be held accountable. It remains to be seen what the FBI finds.
