Rumsfeld points finger at Franks
Defense Secretary Rumsfeld was on the Sunday talk shows and said mistakes were made in Iraq although nothing he could have helped. When asked about why there wasn't more troops deployed he blames General Tommy Franks. Tommy Franks, head of Central Command when the war began, "had a plan that would have gone up above that (150,000 troops) had it been necessary." Rumsfeld said he supported Franks' judgment call that more troops were not needed -- and would have reinforced the perception of an "occupation" rather than a liberation. He also blames Turkey for not allowing the 4th infantry to cross through their country to invade from the north. Well, at least he admits that mistakes were made. After over 2 years into this mess and no end in sight. |
