Stem Cell Act passes in House
The House of Representatives passed H.R. 810, to amend the Public Health Service Act to provide for human embryonic stem cell research, by a yea-and-nay vote of 238 yeas to 194 nays. This vote would overturn the White House policy prohibiting federal funding of new stem cell lines and to allow nearly 400,000 frozen human embryos to be used for research. The Senate will be voting on S 471, "Stem Cell Research Enhancement Act of 2005". If passed in the Senate the White House has threatened a veto. I urge you to call, write or email your Senator in support S 471. To learn more on the stem cell issue visit http://www.camradvocacy.org/fastaction/default.asp |
