"Every government degenerates when trusted to the rulers of the people alone. The people themselves, therefore, are its only safe depositories. "
Thomas Jefferson, 1781

"In the councils of government, we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the military-industrial complex. The potential for the disastrous rise of misplaced power exists and will persist. "
Dwight D. Eisenhower

Four.
Calling a tail a leg doesn't make it a leg."

Gen. Wesley K. Clark testifies

On Wednesday, April 6th, retired Army Gen. Wesley K. Clark and chairman of the Pentagon's Defense Policy Board Richard N. Perle testified before the House Armed Services Committee.
This was a repeat performance, they both testified together before the invasion on Iraq.
In that testimony Perle said Clark was "hopelessly confused" and spouting "fuzzy stuff" and "dumb cliches."
Clark, who was an unsuccessful 2004 Democratic presidential candidate, in his 2002 testimony said "Force should not be used until the personnel and organizations to be involved in post-conflict Iraq are identified and readied to assume their responsibilities. This includes requirements for humanitarian assistance, police and judicial capabilities, emergency medical and reconstruction assistance, and preparations for a transitional governing body ...."
The Washington post reports Rep. Walter B. Jones Jr., a conservative Republican from North Carolina, told Perle the administration should "apologize for the misinformation that was given." Perle, of course, tried to pass blame on to the intelligence community, like the Bush administration has been doing. The committee continued with tough questions to Perle, too bad they were not so tough in 2002.
