CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. - NASA managers finished fueling up the shuttle Discovery on Saturday, setting the stage for one of the space program's most crucial launches.

The filling of Discovery's external fuel tank with supercooled liquid hydrogen and oxygen was accompanied by hopeful news about one of the big question marks surrounding the scheduled 3:48 p.m. ET launch: the weather.

Forecasters said the chances of acceptable conditions rose from 40 to 60 percent overnight. The biggest concern was the possibility of rain showers or lightning near NASA's Kennedy Space Center.
