The Wounded Die Alone

Here is a really powerful article from the LA times a few weeks ago. It portrays the lawlessness in the streets of Baghdad seen through the eyes of an Iraqi journalist that is living there. Just to write this piece must take enormous courage. It tells how a man is shot and left to die, no one dares to help for fear they will be next. No police come to help, no American troops, no Iraqi troops, no one comes to help.

BAGHDAD — On a recent Sunday, I was buying groceries in my beloved Amariya neighborhood in western Baghdad when I heard the sound of an AK-47 for about three seconds. It was close but not very close, so I continued shopping.

As I took a right turn on Munadhama Street, I saw a man lying on the ground in a small pool of blood. He wasn't dead.
