Committee on Government Reform
The new Democratic leadership should have a positive influence on science. It's been no secret that Bush has made a mockery of science policy. Rep. Henry A. Waxman will become the chairman of the Committee on Government Reform, which has authority to investigate any federal program and anything with federal policy implications. Waxman led the investigations on the state of science under the Bush administration. You can see some of this work on the office’s Politics & Science web page. He’s also been very outspoken and critical of Halliburton and the corruption scandals. Waxman will be an important leader in the coming months to lead investigations and conduct hearings that are necessary to have proper oversight of Bush. |

Great news! Waxman has been extremely critical of the administration so it's encouraging that he's been given this position. This would essentially give him the authority to play a leading role in the investigations.
Nobody is above the law including the criminals occupying the WH.
Looks like he'll be pretty busy, I found this quote of his since I made the post:
"I'm going to have an interesting time because the Government Reform Committee has jurisdiction over everything. The most difficult thing will be to pick and choose."
-- Rep. Henry Waxman (D-CA), quoted by the AP, on what he'll choose to investigate as the incoming chairman of the panel.
Frankly, I'm just thrilled there is going to be any oversight of Dubya & Co. I mean, seriously, to this point, there has been absolutely none. A big fat zero. So, git 'em, Rep. Waxman. You have my blessing and my cheers.
You're 100% right about the lack of oversight HCG. There has been ZERO subpoena's issued by the current Congress.
I forgot, Congress did subpoena baseball players to discuss steroid use and summon oil industry executives to justify record profits. The oil exec's were not under oath however.
