"Every government degenerates when trusted to the rulers of the people alone. The people themselves, therefore, are its only safe depositories. "
Thomas Jefferson, 1781

"In the councils of government, we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the military-industrial complex. The potential for the disastrous rise of misplaced power exists and will persist. "
Dwight D. Eisenhower

Four.
Calling a tail a leg doesn't make it a leg."

Privacy

This comes as no surprise, on a scale of 1-5 the London-based Privacy International has ranked the U.S. 2.0 for privacy protections, Germany ranked highest at 3.9.

The U.S. is considered an "extensive surveillance society".

This after the U. S. media was recently ranked 53rd in the Worldwide Press Freedom Index. (H/T Musings of a Working Mom)

U.S. NEAR THE BOTTOM IN PRIVACY STUDY

Posted: Wednesday, November 1 at 06:13 pm CT by Bob Sullivan

U.S. privacy protections rank among the worst in the democratic world, a London-based privacy organization said Wednesday.

Privacy International ranked 36 nations around the globe, including all European Union nations and other major democracies, and determined that in categories such as enforcement of privacy laws, the U.S. is on par with countries like China, Russia and Malaysia.

Overall, the U.S. was determined to be an "extensive surveillance society,” the second-lowest rating in the study.

OMG - we are near the BOTTOM - one step away from Russia and CHINA!?!?! Will the bad news never end?

Canada is looking pretty good.

If the Dems win (oh, lordy, I hope, I hope, I hope) they MUST reverse this disastrous, catastrophic course dubya has set us on. If not, we will be telling tales to our grandchildren of "back in 00, we had privacy." Of course, they will roll their eyes and refuse to believe us.

Pam, Canada's looking good but you know you wanna stay and fight. Moving sucks.

HCG, your back from hiatus just in time for the final countdown to election day. That's when the reversal starts.

Have you read the fictional book "the plot against america"? Well, if these elections reveal a repuke clean sweep....then the time to move may be coming very soon while we still can.

Blogger researcher said ... (5:21 PM) :

I never read that book Pam but I just checked out the synopsis on Amazon. We are headed in that direction (towards fascism) aren't we. This election has to get the course changed. Even with the Dems gaining control of at least one house we have to continue to fight.

Yikes, let hope we all don't start slowly disappearing.

Blogger researcher said ... (6:25 PM) :

I hope not Gracie, I'm sure they will be listening though.
