This comes as no surprise, on a scale of 1-5 the London-based Privacy International has ranked the U.S. 2.0 for privacy protections, Germany ranked highest at 3.9. The U.S. is considered an "extensive surveillance society". This after the U. S. media was recently ranked 53rd in the Worldwide Press Freedom Index. Privacy International ranked 36 nations around the globe, including all European Union nations and other major democracies, and determined that in categories such as enforcement of privacy laws, the U.S. is on par with countries like China, Russia and Malaysia.
