Vaccine Maker Profits Over Safety

Senate bill 3, named "Protecting America in the War on Terror," calls for many sweeping changes in pharmaceutical product liability, vaccine regulation, policy, research and The Vaccine Injury Compensation Act. In particular I am concerned with Mercury (Thimerosal) in vaccines given to children. This has been shown as a cause of Autism. Thimerosal is used when the vaccine is in "multiple dose" form. That way doctors can inject, change only the needle and inject again. Republican Senators are trying to pay back the drug companies and sneak this through under the guise of national security. This cunning bit of legislation includes something nearly every American will want to support: raising the death gratuity for families of soldiers killed in Iraq from $12,000 to $100,000 and increases other military benefits. Including an unrelated but popular provision that should stand alone legislatively seeks only to cloud the issues addressed in the major portion of this bill's language. Every American supports increased benefits for our soldiers and their families and that includes me. DESPICABLE is to put it lightly. The pharmaceutical industry has given enormous sums of money to Washington campaigns. You can bet that anybody who has the integrity to fight to amend this bill will be labeled as unpatriotic and not supporting the troops. Using the troops for political gain is contemptible.
